Why Not Flats?

It's a curiosity of mine after seeing the most popular shoes ever in a dinosaur movie. The fact that Bryce Dallas Howard had to defend her shoes of all things speaks ill of a dinosaur movie and of running in heels.

I am expanding this question on proper shoes to include female characters that might need a lot of walking, running at a moments notice, and fighting. Granted there are no stilettos in the characters I've seen, isn't flat shoes the best way to go?

Full disclosure, my shoe experience is limited only to a 1 inch high boot which I wore for a Star Trek event. Fit's not that perfect but I find the elevation awkward.

Maybe women can wear such shoes all the time with no effect on their job.

On a side note, just this year the Department of Labor and Employment ordered restrictions on the wearing heels in the workplace.

"Women, such as salesladies and lady guards, should not be compelled to wear high-heeled shoes in the workplace, nor be deprived of a short span of sitting breaks to prevent health risks," according to Department Order No. 178 or the “Safety and Health Measures for Workers who by the Nature of their Work have to Stand at Work.”
Back to our heeled heroes.

A detective has to go all over the place to search for suspects or in this story a missing girl in a remote rural town. Isn't that best motive and location for flats?

What's with the with the difference between the detective and patrol cop's footwear?

In Plain Sight

The series with a US Marshall in the lead has plenty of field work ferrying and protecting witnesses. A US Marshall has a bigger reach than a Police Detective. Can it be heels for office and flats for field work just in case a witness gets attacked and running is needed?

Criminal Minds

Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gubler) is relied by the team for the all the data he can recall with his incredible memory. Does he have data on heels?

Special Agent Jennifer "JJ" Jareau (AJ Cook) shouldn't
Spencer with his flat shoes be the one kicking?

Dark Matter

Maybe artificial gravity makes heels comfy, I don't know.

Person of Interest

Shaw has always been a assassin; Root is a hacker and an assassin. In the seasons they came together, teasing the possibility of being a couple; the heroes of Person of Interest were always on the run. Paranoia has not made them buy sneakers.

they wear the same type of shoe

I always thought Natasha (Scarlett Johanssonwas running funny in that sequence if Scarlett actually ran in those shoes. It felt like the camera was always avoiding a full body shot much less a shot of her shoes. A wise move considering Jurassic World.

For parting words, this trained soldier in real life and a beauty queen to boot had something to say about flats during the promotion of Wonder Woman. Emphasis mine.

“I want to create this trend of doing red carpets in flats,” she told USA Today. “I love wearing high heels, it’s beautiful, it’s sexy, whatever. But at the same time, especially stilettos, it puts us out of balance. We can fall any minute. It’s not good for our backs. Why do we do it? I can wear high heels (despite having a sprained back). But I was like, ‘Let’s wear flats!’ I’ve been waiting for this moment.”
